The Idealistic Husband who says tackling home renovation projects with him is "right in my wheelhouse!" Hmmm....I'm anxious already.

The Food Experiment #4: Salted Caramel Apple Cider vs. Spiced Caramel Apple Cider

Contender #1
Salted Caramel Apple Cider
Didn't need the store bought sauce just yet, brown sugar + heavy cream makes the caramel in this one.

VS.

Contender #2
Spiced Caramel Apple Cider
Found this cute little infuser lollipop at Home Goods, and put the whole cloves and whole allspice inside so I wouldn't have to fish them out before serving from the slow cooker after letting the flavors mix for an hour.

Teens #1 & #2 both appreciated the sweetness infused into this particular experiment. I figured they were such good sports for trying the squash the other day, let me throw in something filled with sugar....hmmm, right before both Halloween and their dentist appointments. What was I thinking?

The Food Experiment #3: Spaghetti Squash

Had never heard of it. Looked pretty in the supermarket. And nutritious. Surprised Thing 1 and Thing 2 gave two thumbs up. Probably b/c I baked it in orange juice and generously slathered on the brown sugar. Very flavorful, and cool how the consistency really WAS like spaghetti. BUT. Hard to get out of the shell (read: I splashed myself with hot orange juice trying to see if it was done) and I heart low maintenance. #GoingBackToButternutSquash

The Food Experiment #2: The Love Sandwich

The Love Sandwich A.K.A a panini. I got this expression from an article on Oprah who apparently makes awesome sandwiches for friends and family. It expanded my notion of this basic food and sparked my creativity. I've been doing paninis for a while, adding things like avocado to the mix, so I wanted to see how adventurous the teenagers would get. My sandwich included honey ham, spinach, hummus and wasabi horseradish. The boys, well, Thing 1 chose a salad on the side of the basic ham & cheese. Thing 2 slapped all that together, then added hot sauce. Everyone was fed, and as the story in Oprah magazine intended to convey, the most important ingredient to the evening was LOVE. And knowing that (considering I was annoyingly taking pictures of them at each step of making a simple meal) I was completely in the moment with my boys.

The Review

Teenage Boy #1: The ketchup made it work.

The Food Experiment #1: The Review

Spicy Roasted Carrot Soup

Teenage Boy #1: "It's missing something. Good try." Teenage Boy #2: "That's not soup. Soup has broth. It's definitely not carrot soup or there would be carrots floating in it." Me: Beneficiary of almost all this Vitamin A goodness. Back to the drawing board.

The Smart Refrigerator - Part 3

"I know it's still in the middle of the floor. But look how cool it is."

True, considering it plays my music through the speaker.

But it still needs to actually fit in somewhere.

Contemplating what to do, from down low....

....and up high....

A plan is being hatched. This must be serious if Husband is actually making a LIST.

Yes, I CAN see you, buying a different kind of router than the router we just bought last weekend. And a table to put it on. And a reciprocating saw.

Never let it be said that I am not helpful. I'm even balancing our breakfast in my purse. Talk about multi-tasking.

Impressive. The cabinet is now bottomless. So if nothing else right this minute, the fridge may at least have a cubby hole.

And yes, OK, I have to agree with Husband on how cool this is, when Thing 2 can step up to the fridge, push a button, and call my Mom with no phone in sight.
